Claire Bashaw / US

As an Arizona native, Claire has always had an affinity for Mexico, starting with an early interest in the Spanish language. She attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where she received a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a double minor in Spanish and Women’s and Gender Studies.

Claire’s passion for education advocacy began in 2015 when she joined Villa Montessori School in Phoenix. Over four years, she built a fundraising and development department, oversaw all fundraising events and worked closely with staff, the board of directors, parents, volunteers and community partners. Mobilizing a community to support quality education fueled her desire to help less fortunate communities.

In 2019, Claire transitioned to the role of executive director for Steps of Love, a binational nonprofit with a mission of helping youth in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico whose families lacked the resources to send them school and support academic success. Claire helped advance Steps of Love by creating and implementing a strategic plan, developing donor acquisition and retention plans, and managing all operations related to program development, fundraising, marketing and administration.

Claire’s experience and skill set serve as the ideal bridge to Rancho Feliz, where she will lead initiatives in support of its mission: to break the cycle of poverty by providing Mexican families along the border with an education and sustainable housing—empowering them to lead self-sufficient, purposeful and joyful lives.

Program development will be the focus of Claire’s efforts with the goal of galvanizing both sides of the border to continue cultivating awareness and keep Rancho Feliz moving forward.

Claire lives in Phoenix and enjoys hiking, yoga, travel, dogs of all breeds/shapes/sizes—and honing her Spanish.
